๐Ÿ“ป lo-fi podcasting: when imperfection is a feature, not a flaw [OHT 046]

What do I mean by lo-fi? I googled it a month or so ago to confirm my suspicions that it stood for "low fidelity," then the actual definitions ended up sparking a whole new line of thinking. Maybe even a movement. You tell me. Wikipedia says, "Lo-fi is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice." Domestika.org says: A popular subgenre of electronic music, lo-fi music's characteristic features include "imperfections" like incorrect notes, background noise, and low-quality audioโ€”all of which used to be looked down on by industry players." https://www.domestika.org/en/blog/10296-what-is-lo-fi-music-and-why-is-it-perfect-for-relaxing Can you sense where I'm heading with this?? I've shared in many previous messages that my audio quality *and content* in this podcast is very intentional. I recorded in Voxer, direct to my phone, without a special mic or headset. I download to my desktop and upload without editiing (unless I'm merging two files because I was interrupted beyond repair ;)). One-take wonders or bust. The quality of sound and content here is by intentional design, not default. I had the chance to share this concept I'm calling "lo-fi podcasting" in front of a live (Ciel Creative Space) audience in Berkeley recently, and the resonance was undeniable. I lost count of the number of women (including experienced podcasters!) who came up to me throughout the weekend sharing the lightbulbs that had gone off when they heard me describe my thought process around this. For one reason or another, they've been holding back, staying quiet, keeping their most valuable conversations to small private threads and groups because they felt like podcasting had to look (sound) a certain way. Yet here we are in this On Her Terms feed proving that it doesn't. If you've got something to say and way too many excuses for not saying it in podcast form... tune in for this message and see what it shakes loose. I'm super-inspired by the possibilities of how I can support you in your own lo-fi creations, so if you'd love inspo and info around the logistics and the mindset pieces, reach out via the comment box or the application below. Something special is stirring around this concept and conversation. I'd love to hear your thoughts. ๐Ÿ“ฎ Thoughts? Qs? Requests?
