DAILY PODCAST: Taking the Tim Bridge to Burn Town | The Rizzuto Comedy Show
King Scott has a new baby, Rizz has ten stitches in his face, AC/DC has basically taken over St. Louis, and somewhere along the way a guy gets duct-taped to an airplane seat. So yeah, pretty normal day around here. The show kicks off with some genuinely great news: King Scott and Allison welcomed their new baby girl! Naturally, instead of simply congratulating the happy family like emotionally mature adults, the crew immediately starts calculating who won the baby pool. Date, time, weight—we’re crunching numbers like ESPN analysts covering the birth of an eight-pound free agent. Rizz is also back after Mohs surgery to remove basal cell carcinoma from underneath his eye, and the procedure was a little more involved than expected. Multiple rounds of cutting, repeated needles directly into an extremely sensitive part of his face, ten stitches and enough swelling to make his return to work look like the aftermath of an underground fight club. He also addresses the listener who thought he was taking too many days off, because apparently “having cancer cut out of my face” still requires a note for some people. Then St. Louis enters the chat. Rizz tells the bizarre story of his family’s car disappearing during the Gateway Cup, only to discover it hadn’t been stolen or impounded—it had simply been relocated several blocks away. We also get into local restaurant closings, the Heavy Anchor getting hit by a car, community support for the venue and a Bevo-area street takeover involving a stolen vehicle and fire. STL really knows how to make a holiday weekend relaxing. Things get unexpectedly wholesome when Lern reveals her birthday surprise for Mono Tim: she actually had a bridge named after him. A real bridge. With a plaque. Tim was blown away, everyone gets emotional for approximately eleven seconds, and then Rafe starts discussing whether the property would be an appropriate location to give his Jeep a Viking funeral. That is basically the emotional range of this comedy podcast. Meanwhile, AC/DC fever has completely taken over St. Louis. The AC/DC pop-up at Ballpark Village is packed, Foo Fighters are opening at the Dome and Lern is convinced Dave Grohl might come back out to perform with AC/DC because she had a dream about it. We’re not saying dreams are a reliable source, but they’re at least cheaper than concert tickets. The concert conversation spirals into some absolutely insane ticket prices and the biggest single-night concert grosses ever, before the show discovers another kind of travel nightmare: an unruly airline passenger who reportedly became so disruptive that fellow passengers restrained him with zip ties and enough duct tape to qualify as home improvement contractors. That leads into a much darker airline story involving longtime Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton and disturbing online messages another passenger allegedly spotted on his laptop. The crew debates whether they’d ever notice what somebody else was doing on a plane, how much privacy anyone really has anymore and whether the person looking over your shoulder is being nosy—or potentially stopping something much worse. A disturbing local story involving a St. Charles-area middle school assistant principal charged with possession of child sexual abuse material leads to a serious conversation about predators, technology, accountability and protecting kids. It also brings back the crew’s wildly unofficial “Pedophile Island” proposal, which remains less of a criminal justice policy and more of a reason nobody should ever invite us to testify before Congress. And speaking of privacy, smartphones may be destroying your relationship—or maybe you’re just acting incredibly shady with one. The crew runs through suspicious phone habits like suddenly changing passwords, flipping your screen face-down, angling it away from your partner and guarding the thing like it contains nuclear launch codes. Lern even admits she recently looked suspicious around Tim while secretly planning his bridge surprise, proving there is technically one wholesome explanation for acting like you’re hiding an affair. Sexy Time Fun Facts somehow makes things even weirder with the tragic story of an influencer who died following a cosmetic penile enhancement procedure overseas. That launches a conversation about risky cosmetic procedures, enormous implants spotted in the wild, an alleged big-butt shortage and whether everybody should just start doing squats and leave well enough alone. Crap on Celebrity piles on with Beyoncé selling some wildly expensive anniversary merchandise, Kelly Osbourne opening up about grief after losing Ozzy, Sammy Hagar and Alex Van Halen continuing their senior-citizen rock feud, Soundgarden working with unreleased Chris Cornell vocals, and Moon remembering Every Time I Die guitarist and wrestler Andy Williams after his death. There’s also the Michael Jackson biopic, Pamela Anderson, Nathan Fielder staring into the Elizabeth Holmes abyss, Rob Lowe’s Tom Cruise rivalry, James Bond rumors and plenty more celebrity news before football season brings back another proud Rizzuto Show tradition: making the loser suffer. The Pick ’Em Challenge punishment wheel is back, with potential consequences including working barefoot, cat food or anchovies stinking up your car, oven mitts during the show and other ideas created by adults who technically remain employed. A new baby. Skin cancer surgery. A missing car. Mono Tim’s bridge. AC/DC and Foo Fighters. Airplane duct tape. Phone paranoia. Questionable cosmetic decisions. Celebrity chaos and football punishments nobody asked for. It’s another perfectly organized comedy podcast from The Rizzuto Show, assuming your definition of “organized” is four people opening microphones and seeing which emergency happens first.
