In this week's episode of Art on Podcast, John Illsley talks about what he learnt being in one of England's most successful rock groups, his artistic practise, the importance of pubs and much more. John is an English musician who rose to fame as the bass guitarist of the critically acclaimed band Dire Straits. With Dire Straits, John has been the recipient of multiple BRIT and Grammy Awards and a Heritage Award. As one of the founding band members John played a major role in the development of the Dire Straits’ sound.During their time together as Dire Straits they sold over 120 million albums and toured extensively across the world. A creative force, John has always had a regular art practise, studying and developing his talent for drawing and oil paint. His abstract representations of landscapes and emotional moments come from the same instinctive and guttural place he works from with his music.
