Unlock the Power of Family Transformation with Jim Burns
We all know that parenting a child doesn't stop when they hit age 18, but for some of us, we can struggle to connect with that child as the dynamic changes into early adulthood. So what can we do to unlock the power of family transformation as our child steps into adulthood? That's why I am so excited to welcome bestselling author and parenting expert Jim Burns to this episode of the Warfare Parenting Podcast. Jim shares his testimony as a first generation Christian, growing up in a family with a father who was an alcoholic, and making a generational shift with his wife as they started their family. Jim then talks about his book, Doing Life with Your Adult Children: Keep Your Mouth Shut and the Welcome Mat Out, and how parents can utilize different methods and resources to welcome their children into adulthood as they step into who God is calling them to be. He shares examples from parents he has spoken to throughout the years and offers positive, practical advice to help parents love their adult children fully without being overbearing or distant. Who is Jim Burns? Jim Burns is the president of HomeWord and the executive director of the HomeWord Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific University. He is a popular public speaker and writer who has almost two million resources in print in 20 languages. He primarily addresses the topics of building strong marriages, encouraging parents and empowering kids and healthy leaders. Jim’s books include Confident Parenting, The Purity Code, and Creating an Intimate Marriage. He and his wife, Cathy, reside in Southern California and have three grown daughters and two grandchildren. Things We Talk About in this Episode: Is it okay to give advice to my grown child? What has to change in our relationship as a parent to give our children advice without it seeming unsolicited? What do you do when your children just don't seem to be maturing into who they are called to be as adults? What's the difference between enabling my child and helping them?
