Dunc'd On Basketball NBA Podcast

Got hooked on this podcast during the pandemic. Nate and guests have taught me most of my salary cap understanding and how teams evaluate (and should be valuing) players. It’s brought me a new appreciation to the off-court business side of basketball and their discussions are always super-lively and while Nate and Danny are both highly data-informed there are also clear opinions that I appreciate them staking out.

i listened for about 4 years, paid for a while. i bet on basketball competitively (half my income from betting) and watch religiously for entertainment. started listening to get more insight and while these guys undeniably know a lot...ultimately they just really dont know much at all in terms of prediction. like they do worse than me. prime example was the recent OKC nuggets double header...denver loses the first one pretty bad and their taken is just "yeah obviously saw this coming nuggets cant compete blah blah" i still take the over on denver for game 2 and yeah denver blows them out because these dudes are reacting too strongly, pretending its insight. i kinda hoped they would have analysis or explanation after game 2 and instead they just go with "yeah denver won i guess wow okay moving on" the model is obvious: make vague statements leading up to the event, dont commit to a prediction. then claim the results were ur prediction in an overreaction and when game 2 cuts against this narrative just ignore it. this doesnt work for what i do i guess its fine for 0 consequences "analysts" but for what both of us do it's actually a much better habit to analyze your mistakes. i'd dedicate a whole podcast to what u got wrong, dive in and learn but that isnt the model here. ive learned to recognize this stuff from gambling they just cant put their statistical knowledge to any practical use
