But there shall be a king over us, that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” Mark 10:45 (ESV) For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 11:11 ESV And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. Matthew 26:28 (ESV) for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Ian Duguid The blood that would be shed to bring us peace was his blood. The righteous King had to die in place of his unrighteous followers, the Good Shepherd in place of his unfaithful flock, so that God could accomplish his eternal purposes. Revelation 19:11–16 (ESV) Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
