#057 Aarav Chavda: on fashion and the SDGs, regenerative leather and biodegradability

Hey it’s Steph Dickson and welcome to the Live Wide Awake podcast. Thank you for being one of our listeners in 88 countries around the world. Today we are speaking to Aarav Chavda the Co-Founder and CEO at INVERSA Leathers, a fashion materials company that makes environmentally-regenerative leather from invasive species. As a longtime sub diver and environmentalist, after witnessing the damage to coral reefs by the invasive lionfish in the Atlantic he was moved to do something about it. And so began his journey to become a materials scientist and nerd. A graduate of Princeton University in materials engineering, before starting INVERSA he worked as a consultant at McKinsey. In this episode, we talk about the fashion’s industries role in solving some of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the confusion on biodegradability, materials that help biodiversity and why people have lost trust in the word sustainability. I hope you enjoy this smooth conversation thanks to our sound partner Audio-Technica. Okay, it’s time to live wide awake.
