Wholistic Health with Dr. Rachel Berman
Dr. Rachel Berman is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Academic General Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She earned her her BA in Social Anthropology at Harvard University in 2004 and her MD and MPH at Boston University's School of Medicine and School of Public Health in 2010. Dr. Berman then completed her pediatric residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics in 2013, followed by a residency in Preventive Medicine at Boston Medical Center in 2015. Dr. Berman practices general pediatrics, and she serves as her clinic’s clinician champion for social needs screening and referrals. Dr. Berman teaches residents and medical students, and through a grant from the American Medical Association’s Reimagining Residency Initiative, she has been working to develop a curriculum on social and structural determinants of health for residents in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Most recently, she is participating in the 2022-2023 United Hospital Fund’s PEDS Network Fellowship Program, which provides early career pediatricians with mentorship and support for projects that aim to improve health equity for young children and families. Her project specifically focuses on sharing opportunities for civic engagement with her patients and their families. Outside of work, Dr. Berman serves as a founding board member of the Interfaith Public Health Network, a non-profit organization that aims to engage and mobilize faith communities to improve the health of our communities through addressing social, commercial, environmental, and political determinants of health.
