COVID-19: How to Speak With Your Parents About the Pandemic
Dr. Laura Mosqueda, Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Dr. Bonnie Olsen, Professor of Clinical Family Medicine and Vice-Chair for Research at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, hold a candid conversation about how adult children can speak with their parents about COVID-19 and social distancing. Laura Mosqueda, MD, is Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Prior to her appointment as Dean, Dr. Mosqueda, a Professor of Family Medicine and Geriatrics and a Professor at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, served as Associate Dean of Primary Care and the Chair of Family Medicine. An accomplished physician and researcher, Dr. Mosqueda is a national and international expert on elder abuse and neglect and the director of the National Center on Elder Abuse. In addition to Dr. Mosqueda’s leadership in clinical care and research, she has been actively involved in medical education and mentors medical students, graduate students, residents, and clinical fellows. Bonnie Olsen, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience as a geropsychologist, working in academic medicine for over 17 years. She provides mental health and cognitive assessment and short-term treatment in a collaborative treatment model with several primary care physicians and as a leader in the Keck School of Medicine of USC’s interprofessional Geriatric Assessment Clinic. As the Vice-Chair of Academic Affairs in the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Olsen is also involved in several research grants that focus on elder abuse education and prevention.
