#8: The French Connection (1971)
Show Notes Free Palestine Get ready for some terrible policing this week as we discuss 1971’s The French Connection, directed by William Friedkin and starring a sweaty Gene Hackman whose character definitely smelled like gin in every frame of this film. These cops may not be dirty but they aren’t clean. We visit a time when cops weren’t assigned cases but rather made them up as they went, and when one cop’s hunches end up killing other cops, everyone agrees to keep following those hunches. Join us in discussing this epitome of 70s movie grit. Also, how much of this movie was borrowed for Speed? I’ll give you a hint: it’s a lot. Recommendations: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple+); The Marvels (In theaters) Next up: The Birds (1963) Email us at latecomers@gmail.com Find Amity @ www.amityarmstrong.com Our Facebook group is here for those who consent: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1754020081574479/
