2.12 The Polyjuice Potion

It’s Monday! There’s a new episode of Podtrificus Totalus! We are a Harry Potter podcast that reads the books chapter by chapter! This chapter sees Hermione finally finish brewing the Polyjuice Potion, with relatively positive results. Harry and Ron, disguised as Goyle and Crabbe, infiltrate the Slytherin Common Room, but Malfoy denies any involvement in the attacks, leaving them back at square one of unraveling the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets. We make a number of references to outside sources and popular culture, which are listed below: * The Chronicles of Narnia book series by C.S. Lewis* The Wildwood Chronicles by Colin Meloy* The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante* Silent Dancing: A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood by Judith Ortiz Cofer* “Social Psychology,” an episode of Community* V for Vendetta (2005)* Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter by Galadriel Waters (Ed. Astre Mithrandir; Published by Wizarding World Press in 2003)* Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (the book) by J.K. Rowling, under the pseudonym Newt Scamander* “The Iliad” by Homer* J.K. Rowling’s World Book Day Chat (4 March 2004)* Gilmore Girls, Cassie’s favorite TV show* Exploding Snap on the Harry Potter Lexicon* “Harry Potter and the Tower of Babel” by Nancy K. Jentsch in The Ivory Tower and Harry Potter: Perspectives on a Literary Phenomenon (Ed. Lana A. Whited; Published by University of Missouri Press in 2002)* Leekspin, an ancient meme* You’re the Man Now Dog* Wizarding World Currency Exchanger on the Harry Potter Lexicon* Azkaban on Wizarding World Our Spell of the Week for this episode is actually a Potion of the Week, and–big surprise–it’s the Polyjuice Potion!
