They Demanded a King
There is a quiet, subtle pull we all experience: the sheer exhaustion of feeling distinct and the seductive relief of just blending in with everyone else. When the ancient Israelites looked around at the nations surrounding them, they demanded an earthly ruler they could physically see—someone familiar, conventional, and predictable. Yet beneath their request lay a profound rejection of who they were truly called to be. Living by sight and conforming to surrounding culture often feels far safer than walking by faith, but earthly systems invariably end up taking more than they ever give. In this talk, we unpack the tension between chasing worldly security and stepping into our true calling as a set-apart, chosen people. While human rulers take and demand allegiance, Jesus turns worldly power completely on its head by coming not to take, but to serve and give his life away. Tune in with us as we explore what it genuinely looks like to stop serving two masters, refuse the pull of cultural conformity, and anchor our identity in an upside-down kingdom that offers lasting freedom.
